Slayer - God Hates Us All (2001)
When I went to Florida to do an internship at Walt Disney World, I figured there would not be many metal kids on the program. Thus when Slayer came to play at the House of Blues Orlando (which is on Disney property…the idea of slayer at disney always makes me smile) I was all set to go by myself. When I mentioned the concert I found out this kid Nick, who was the boyfried of our neighbor, used to be a metalhead. It was the last thing I would have ever thought - he looked like a typical college “guy” who wore sandals everywhere.
He hadn’t listened to Slayer in a long time so I lent him this record, which apparently awoke the sleeping metalhead within. He was psyched to go to the show with me, and so we went.
The show itself was awesome, and afterward he wanted to try to meet Slayer, so I said sure. As we walked the parking lot we ended up meeting Jamie Jasta of Hatebreed, who gave us shots of Jagermeister (it was the Jagermeister tour) and some autographed Hatebreed things. No Slayer. We kept walking and met Chino from the Deftones and one of the guitarists from Arch Enemy. This produced a great picture of this huge swedish man giving devil horns, myself giving devil horns, and Nick looking, as my roommate later said, “like he is excited for doughnuts.”
Sadly, when Slayer finally emerged, they went straight for their tourbus and out of our petty little lives. That was about the only time I hung out with Nick, but he will forever be in my heart for it.
I keep my bible in a pool of blood so that none of it’s lies can affect me…
Please share any stories connected to this record. Music is much more that what comes out of the speakers.
